Album Liner Notes
We all have a passion for the music that awakened us when we are young. We evolve by searching for music that gives us a change of attitude and a reason to dance. We move further outward embracing a world of music that we never heard before. Listening and feeling and creating music that can reach across generations.
The Shaky Ground album is a phoenix rising out of the song writing collaboration of Maki and Papp. Both have similar performance histories but never met back in Detroit. Crossing paths in Seattle they shook hands on a new record. They have a give and take ability for composition and lyrics which makes this album shine like a diamond.
Indie rock and folk with a relevant message. We’re talking about factory work, hackers, seekers, lions and lost love. The personal emotions that come from living it, everyday. Feels like walking on shaky ground.
About The Artists
Maki started his music career playing in back rooms, bars and bowling alleys in and about Detroit. Some of those stages were big and others were on the floor pushed up against a corner. All genre of music was played in solo, three piece and show band arrangements. Maki brings vocals, guitar, bass & synth.
Papp is traditionally trained on piano. He played in several Detroit groups covering rock, pop and jazz venues. He bought one of the first Kurzweil snyths made and there was no looking back. Papp brings vocals, keyboards, bass and drums
Tabscott is an acclaimed dobro and pedal steel player, winning several music awards. He eats and breathes blues and bluegrass, live performances and studio session work.
Maki and Papp collaborated several years with the goal of creating songs that reverberated the sounds they grew up with. When Tabscott showed up in Maki’s tiny studio a microphone was immediately put in front of him with the recorder running
Production Notes
SHAKY GROUND
indie alternative
“Jet City hackers looking to score”
Why in the hell was it going to turn out any other way? Working 16 hour days inside a software boiler room was not ideal for personal enrichment. So do a side hustle, buy a burner phone and sell those digital secrets..
One day your horse to come in.
Tab Tabscott, a nationally acclaimed dobro master joins us for this set.

ITS THE LAW
indie detroit-slam
“working the split shift in Motown”
Detroit Slam is rock and roll played at bowling allies or KC teen halls or summer street parties. It’s hard hitting, throbing, rhythm guitar dominate, with blistering solos. Two singers harmonize the entire song, kind of like early Beatles but with a raw factory town soul.
Nick Budoff joins Maki and Papp on Harmonica. He can wail a mean chromatic solo and backing like no other. Nick drives home in the solo like a Thunderbird in high gear.

JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE
indie alternative
“cruising Stump Town after midnight”
Let’s take a ride downtown
Where everyone meets, walking the beat, but who’s keeping score.
And everybody needs a new escape, and just a little bit more

KARMA BRING YOU DOWN
indie alternative
“learning life hitchhiking around Motor City”
On one ride off Woodward Ave. the businessman driving asked me if he should go through with his suicide.. A junky picked me up and we had to go to his place first. He was shaking bad and talked as fast as he drove.. A guy in a band I once played in killed someone, on purpose. He went to California and joined some Scientology thing. Last time I saw him was at the state mental institution. He had that Thorazine shuffle
Learning life is about getting outside of your bubble, the hood, your religion

HALF A CHANCE
blues
MAKI and PAPP do an open mic night.
BALLAD FOR NUMBER 3
indie alternative
“undisclosed location under Sin City”
A group of extraterrestrials have been living here for a hundred thousand years. They look like us for the most part. But, when an unknown species arrives things get different. Protocols are cited, isolation, interrogation, confinement are the norm. Even if they were invited to come here.

LIONS OF DARKNESS
indie alternative
“everyone has to do it sometime”
Close you eyes. Focus on quieting the voices inside your head. When they fade into silence you will be able to hear the rustle of the grass at the edge of that dark pool of water,,, you know you are in danger.

ANCIENT STORY
indie alternative
“is there a voice calling you home”
The gods that once walked the earth among men and women bestowed the self awareness of being a soul. We are connected to each other and shall live a billion reincarnations together before we can move onward.

ON THE LONG TRACK
alternative country
“Haight and Ashbury love song”
I hitchhiked through Haight and Ashbury years back It wasn’t what it used to be, but love was still in the air. I met a beautiful woman that helped me understand what love is and what we give up for love. We were both virgins looking for the path to self enlightenment.
When it comes to loving someone, letting go is the hardest thing to do. It’s not a cliche’ when its your turn.
Joining us is the nationally recognized dobro and slide guitar player, Tab Tabscott .

ZUG ISLAND
guitar-disco
While working in and out of Zug Island on the south side of Detroit there were these strange sounds that would reverberate across the river to the Canadian shore and back into the coal dust corners of my basement apartment.
Strange. Unearthly. Possibly extraterrestrial. Guitar Disco
